The Vision

Witnessing the detrimental effects of division in the world over the last year, Vancouverite Hanul Seo - has developed a project with hopes to combat against discrimination and to be able to express, appreciate, and embrace the various colours and cultures Vancouver consists of.

“As a young half-Korean, half-African woman, 2021 was a hard year to swallow. With increasing awareness of civil issues brought into light via social media, it was difficult to accept the reality of the society I was living in. For myself as an ethnic minority, as well as a woman, the social climate seemed cold, ruthless, discriminatory, and I felt as if every odd was against me. The arguments of whether or not an individual should be granted basic human rights depending on their background of any kind was a conversation I never thought I would need to have. However, I believe that I am very fortunate to be able to have the platform that I have to create projects like this. Granting opportunities to show how diversity interacts with enhanced creativity bringing grace and fulfilment into our lives.

Being able to collaborate the gathering of individual minds with various backgrounds was tremendously rewarding. It is truly inspiring to be in a community surrounded by young adults who also feel passionately about the importance of inclusion, and are willing to dedicate their time and effort into advocating for this cause. I hope this project creates opportunities for various young adults to appreciate the beauty in diversity as well as to shine a light on the need for equity amongst the discriminated.”
